Esther M. Massimini

"Well-behaved women rarely make history." - American historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

The music is Johann Sebastian Bach's "Concerto for Two Harpsichords", BWV 1060. I first heard this concerto when I was 17, and have loved it since!

I am involved in the following organizations:
Move On
Veterans for Common Sense

I am also an environmentalist. We are proud owners of a Toyota Prius and a Nissan LEAF.

Another area I am concerned about is GLOBALIZATION. Current globalization trends such as off-shore outsourcing foster a continuation of colonialism and stifle innovation. If cost cutting were the only consideration, companies could easily hire the on-shore unemployed. I am interested in the effects of globalization on women's lives -- Barbara Ehrenreich's "Global Woman" is a must-read.

I am also interested in the links between capitalism, imperialism and racism.

My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 and died in 2006. Read more at the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Current JobAT WORK

I am an engineer at a multi-national member of the military-industrial complex in Phoenix, Arizona.

Professionally, I am a member of:
IEEE - The Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers
Society of Women Engineers

I worked at SGS-Thomson Microelectronics as Manager of North American Operations Computer Services, and three years at Motorola, where I worked on CAD software tools and the industry standard EDIF (Electronic Design Interchange Format.) I was also an Air Force officer for 6 years, serving as a Captain at the Pentagon.

I have a Master's Degree in Operations Research from The George Washington University, School of Engineering and Applied Science. Operations Research applies mathematical models to decision making.

My undergraduate degree is from Oberlin College in Ohio. I majored in Mathematics and History.

My husband Tony Massimini
We have been married since 1987. We enjoy celebrating our anniversaries creatively. We celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary on July 18, 1997. We renewed our wedding vows at the Graceland Chapel in Las Vegas, dressed in Star Trek costumes. The ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Norm Jones, an Elvis impersonator.

Tony is with Frost & Sullivan.

I'm a huge fan of everything Brontė...

Star Trek Enterprise 1701-DStar Trek
I've loved Star Trek since my teenage years. Tony is also a "trekker". Our children are named after Star Trek characters from the old series...

Yes, I was a 'Scaper, until the dastardly suits at SYFY cancelled this show. We had the brilliant experience of seeing the cast and creators of Farscape at Comic Con 2004! Ben Browder is SO cute, and Claudia Black is so kick-ass!

FarscapeGilmore Girls
I am really into the Gilmore Girls.

To might great surprise, I became an avid Arizona Diamondbacks fan.

Jane EyreMy FAVORITE book remains Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre, the Musical, had its American premiere summer of 1999 at the La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, CA. Amanda and I went to see it and loved it.
We also saw it on Broadway April 2001!
